drawn up a major plan to develop 10,426 hectares falling in 23 villages
in the Aravali range. This new notified zone for planned development
will cover villages such as Mangar, Alampur, Gothra Mohabatabad, Sirohi,
Pali, Dhauj and Kabulpur Bangar in Faridabad, and will be almost
one-third of the size of the Gurgaon-Manesar complex.
Since the state
government has notified the development plan, which allows construction
of farmhouses, non-polluting industries, hotels, motels and educational
institutions, land prices in the villages around Mangar have doubled.
Even patches of land on the hills are selling at double the price. "Most
of the buyers are from Delhi and other parts of NCR. While the ban on
mining has snatched the livelihood of many who owned trucks, it has also
led to the sky-rocketing of land prices. City dwellers are coming here
in search of peace. We have very little land left with us as our
forefathers had sold major chunks at giveaway prices," said Vijay
Harsana, a Mangar villager. |
